4th of July will be here in a couple weeks!  Thought I'd get us in the spirit a little early with some little known facts about the holiday.

Did you know…

The actual vote on the resolution for independence was made on July 2, but the Declaration was read on July 4.

There are 30 places nationwide with the "liberty" in their name?

A committee of 5 (Ben Franklin, Roger Sherman, Robert Livingston, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson) was assigned to draft a Declaration explaining the resolution for independence.  The committee then turned the job over to Thomas Jefferson alone, who was 33 years old at the time.

The US imports $135.6 million worth of fireworks annually (much of which is used on 4th of July).

On July 4th of 2009, over 1,200 US flags were flown over Washington, DC.

Last year, about 72 million people visited national historical sites and 24 million visited national monuments.
