BIC Graphic NA recently settled an infringement matter, protecting their KOOZIE® Trademark, with products distributed through a major global retailer. BIC Graphic NA actively works to protect the KOOZIE® brand, which has its roots in the promotional products industry.
The Radio Cap Company (RCC) began over 60 years ago in San Antonio, TX as a promotional products supplier of hats and then moved into offering KOOZIE® can coolers. The KOOZIE® Trademark has been continuously used in connection with beverage insulators since April 1979. BIC Graphic NA acquired the KOOZIE® brand in 2009 and expanded the line into cooler bags and other drinkware and houseware items.
Today, BIC Graphic NA sells millions of KOOZIE® branded products daily, including some of their original mainstays.
“KOOZIE® is The Original Chill™. We own this brand. Our employees take pride in the brand and the products that they manufacture and decorate,” said Melissa Ralston, CMO BIC Graphic NA. “Our legal department and outside counsel diligently work to protect those that infringe upon our intellectual property. We look forward to continuing to grow the range and introduce great products that bring fun into your everyday life.”
Many popular products have been “genericized” after capturing people’s attention by being the first and/or best in their category. In fact, the VELCRO® Brand hilariously calls out the problem in this video, urging people to use the correct terminology and just #dontsayvelcro.
KOOZIE® is a registered trademark of BIC Graphic.
