According to NPR, the term “juice jacking” was first coined in 2011 by cybersecurity analyst Brian Krebs. It refers to the attempt to hack into phones to either steal data while they are charging or infect them with malware that criminals use to access personal data and passwords and ultimately your online accounts. The FCC reports that criminals may even leave infected cables plugged in at charging stations as another ploy to lure unsuspecting victims.
